Em Marie is a white queer poet, artist, and educator living in Brooklyn, NY. They are the co-founder of the queer poetry reading, workshop, and publication series exquisites & an active member of Aberdeen Community Garden where they are a Garden Steward and Community Programmer. Em [Marie] Kohl is creative living on Lenapehoking (Brooklyn, NY), whose personal and community practices move from a trauma informed center. Em’s current practice is in dialogue with loneliness-isolation & its redress, access & accessibility, cosmic ecology and love. Their writing often utilizes syntax and styling rooted in their experience as an adult living with language disabilities.

Em’s writing can be found in Pom Pom Press, The Ana, BULLSHIT LIT, Inkwell and Hymn for the Living Poet, amongst others. Her most current visual project was waves; a study in light, sound, and movement - a collaborative happening which included meditation, poetry, video, and synth by twenty-five contributing artists.

Every first Thursday you can find them co-hosting the nomadic queer reading series exquisites in gardens throughout Brooklyn. exquisites also holds community workshops, and publishes an anthology twice a year. You can also find Em teaching yoga classes and workshops online and in person.

Outside of exquisites & yoga Em is a grants and development associate for Brooklyn Art Haus and volunteers as a lead community programer for Aberdeen Community Garden, and Advisory Board member for the compost non-profit BK ROT.

Em builds community through mutual care and an openness towards continual growth.
